"I am Cris Linnares, founder of Women's Impact, and I want to sincerely welcome you to our empowering sisterhood!
As someone who moved from Brazil to Fargo and felt like a fearful, frozen, fish-out-of-water (Me loca?! You betcha!), I know how powerless it can feel to be disconnected.
During those difficult times of 10 years ago when I was trying to reinvent myself, I experienced how powerful and life-changing it was to connect with women who were willing to share their time, knowledge and wisdom with me. If wasn't for the real-life mentors in my life I wouldn't be who I am today. The generous hearts of these women are the true inspiration behind our mission.
By joining our Women's Impact community you have access to:
1Our inspiring RENT-A-MENTOR community where you can freely RENT-A-MENTOR or BE A MENTOR in a short commitment of ONE CONVERSATION A MONTH for 1 to 3 months...that’s all we ask!
2You can take your career to the next level by applying for our W.I.S.E award and receive funds for professional training, courses and conferences.
3You can connect with women all over the world sharing real-life wisdom in short weekly vlogs of endless empowerment.
...And of course, you are going to be invited to our fun and fearless live and online events!
Your investment?! Your time and your commitment to making a difference in each other's lives. You don't need to pay a fee, you just need to pay-it-forward.
Welcome to Women's Impact Community!
Women's Impact is different from other mentorship communities because we have boiled mentorship down to the MOST ESSENTIAL PART - a connection. No 20 page application, no weekly meetings and follow-up meetings, no reports to prepare. All you commit to is one conversation a month for 3 months to empower your life or career.
How else are we different? We've fused together the roles of mentor and mentee - when you sign up with Women's Impact you are both! You can choose to be EITHER A mentor, A mentee, or both at any given time
1Mentored businesses increased their revenue by 83% while non-mentored business only increased their revenue by 16%
2 Students who had a professor who cared about them as a person, and a mentor who encouraged them to pursue their goals DOUBLED their likelihood of being engaged in their work and thriving in their overall well-being
3 Compared to those not in a mentoring program, mentees are promoted 5 times as often and mentors are promoted 6 times as often.
Women's Impact story was feature in Glamour Magazine in 2015, when our founder Cris Linnares was honored as one of the 50 Hometown Heroes of USA as part of the Women of the Year awards.
This award recognizes Women's Impact as an organization that facilitates powerful and life-changing connections between women in our community.
As you read our story, our deepest gratitude to every volunteer and supporter that has shared their time, talents and resources to help us continue to make an impact. We could not do it without you!
Story by Emily L. Foley Reynolds
Ten years ago, Cris Linnares, 39, left her career as a psychologist in her native country Brazil to move to Fargo, North Dakota, and marry the man she calls her Midwest Prince Charming. But once she was in the U.S., the rose-colored glasses fell away, and Linnares experienced culture shock and depression. "I no longer thought I was good enough because of my accent and my fear of not being able to express my ideas in another language," she recalls.
When she was connected with a woman who volunteered to help her learn English, a spark was ignited. "Through this one connection I went from powerless to powerful, and the seed of Women's Impact—an online community dedicated to empowering women through virtual connections—was planted in my heart," she says.
Four years after starting the community, Women's Impact boasts a vast online community where women can connect and use their talents and resources to meet one another's various needs and has grown to having 100 to 150 women attending monthly events and up to 600 at their annual conference. "Empowerment can come in many forms," says Linnares. "It can mean reaching out to our neighbors, one support at a time."
